This week was a disaster. My phone quit working. It was just done. The screen looked fine, the the home button worked, but the screen – the terribly cool space-age touch screen – was completely unresponsive. It’s amazing how your world changes and how you deal with the loss of a loved electronic. I feel as though the 5 Phases of Grief may have been written for this exact purpose. Think about it:
I sat at the Apple Store with others who were somewhere in this process. We’d all give our phones to a “Genius” who would disappear with it. Meanwhile, we couldn’t even text our friends and family to tell them about our loss. We couldn’t FaceTime our loved ones to help deal with the emotional trauma we were experiencing. We couldn’t even use an app to order a pizza so that we could eat our feelings. What were were just supposed to talk to the people sitting next to us? Like we’re cavemen?!
Anyways, that has nearly nothing to do with what this post is about.
I got a new phone.
I was reinstalling apps and saw one that I hadn’t used in a long time. It was an app that counts down to important dates coming up. I dowloaded the app and opened it. It had some dates in there that had since been rescheduled or which weren’t turned out to be somewhat arbitrary.
But, then I plugged a date which is been both terrifying and exhilarating into the calendar. I entered the date:
October 2, 2016
This is the date that we have been aiming for as Launch Sunday!
Launch Sunday is the official day when the people who we’ve connected with through BBQ’s, movies, community events, serving opportunities and kindness blitzes over the past few months finally might walk through the door.
It’s the day we celebrate the grand beginning of an adventure together and thank God for his provision thus far.
It’s the day where our Partners are in place and we begin to build on the incredible core that we’ve been blessed with.
It’s the day where our teams, which have been organized, trained, empowered are really unleashed to do what they do best.
It’s the day by which we have established our financial footing to create a solid foundation for our future.
When I entered that date into the app, It told me that October 2nd, 2016 is exactly 99 days from today. That number took my breath away for more than one reason.
I met with a fellow from the Stadia organization yesterday. Stadia is an organization we’re partnering with to plant. They have a sterling track record of planting successful, healthy and lasting churches. This guy is a senior project manager for church planting and has aided nearly 100 churches in their planting process. He told me that he was told they had a planter who just finished the assessment process in April and they’re shooting for an October launch. He said that he told them, “No way. Impossible.” Then he continued, “But, talking with you and seeing the people you’ve got around you and the systems you’re putting into place as well as how much ground you guys are already covering, I really think you guys can do it. I really do.”
Guys, I really think we can, too. But, it’s going to take all of us. Every one of us…
If you’ve been the church, hopefully you know the three things we’re looking for out of our partners (those who have committed to being invested at Restoration) are:
Investing your time, investing your money and inviting your friends.
Please, if you’re on the fence or the fringe at all, consider partnering with us! You will not regret it! The place to start that process is through Restoration Beginnings (our welcome class) which begins on July 10th and ends with our first Partner Dinner on July 31st.
If you’re not on the fringe. If you’re off the sidelines and you’re in the game with us then let me say thank you. Just thank you. It’s absolutely humbling that so many amazing people are willing to take this journey with us and with one another. I just can’t say it enough… Thank you.
So, if you’re not sure, just jump in. If you’re in, let’s dig in. Here’s to the next 99 days!
