In the story of the Rich Young Ruler (Mark 10:17–22), Jesus identifies the "one thing" the man lacks: a heart fully surrendered to God. Though the ruler claims to have kept the commandments, Jesus lovingly tells him to sell all he owns, give to the poor, and follow Him. This call exposes the man’s deeper attachment to wealth, revealing that his possessions have become a barrier to true discipleship. The "one thing" Jesus requires is wholehearted devotion—a willingness to let go of earthly security in order to fully embrace life with Him.
